This was a special meeting devoted almost exclusively to a closed executive session for interviews with six of the seven responders to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Request for Proposals (RFP).

A representative of the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps (YVAC) and Mohegan EMS participated in the questioning. Other VAC members were allowed to be in the room but could not ask questions.

Before going into executive session, the Board adopted the following selected resolutions:

Tax exemption hearings. Set October 20, 2026 for public hearings on whether the town should “opt in” for any of four possible property tax exemptions for:

– Permanently and totally disabled veterans as a result of military service

– Active duty members of the armed forces who served in a combat zone

– The surviving spouse of a police officer killed in the line of duty

– The surviving spouse of qualifying volunteer firefighters and ambulance works killed in the line of duty

The percent exemption is different for each of the laws.

Sewer rates. (See Town Board, May 19, 2026). In a 3-2 vote with Councilmen Esposito and Gilbert voting no, the Board voted to revise the August 5th resolution that changed the Master Fee Schedule to make the change retroactive to May 27, 2026. (The omission of the starting date for the change was inadvertently omitted in the original resolution.) Councilman Gilbert opposed making the change retroactive and Councilman Esposito repeated his opposition to the change citing the lack of sufficient data that would justify the change.
